SECRETS OF THE POWER STATION-mai
With a virtual walk through the SYSAV Waste-to-Energy Plant in Malmö, Sweden, this event will explore the pros and cons of transforming everyday waste – from food scraps to packaging, appliances and building materials – into electricity and heat for local distribution.
Originally built in response to the oil crisis of the 1970s, the plant has a long history of innovation to boost efficiency and address environmental concerns.
Is waste-to-energy a viable option for local systems in the clean energy transition?

Dr. Aimée Ambrose
Professor of Energy Policy, Sheffield Hallam University, UK and Lead Researcher on WWE
Dr. Ambrose is a Reader in Energy Policy in CRESR. Her research is primarily concerned with the key societal challenges of reducing domestic energy consumption and the carbon emissions associated with housing. Since June 2019, Dr. Ambrose has acted as Chief Academic Advisor to the International Energy Agency in relation to research into ‘hard to reach’ energy users. Currently, she is also a visiting researcher at the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics at Lund University in Sweden.
